Dr George Comitis - Senior Consultant
Dr George Comitis is a Consultant in the Paediatric Cardiology Service of the Western Cape Provincial Government, Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, Cape Town, and Division of Critical Care and Children’s Heart Diseases, School of Child and Adolescent Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Town. Dr Comitis is the ‘young blood’ of the paediatric cardiology team at Red Cross Children’s Hospital. He was trained in the same unit after spending two years at the Royal Brompton Hospital, UK as a Fellow in Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care. Dr Comitis recruits and follows-up patients for our research team and our multi-disciplinary team follows him into patient consultations and onto ward rounds. This provides important training for the social scientists in our team. He has been responsible for organising patient recruitment for Guy Neveling’s photographic story of cardiac care in the hospital (see Operation BraveHeart’s Facebook page). Dr Comitis is fully committed to understanding the clinical details of a patient’s case in conjunction with his or her psychological and social life and pathway to care and this provides an enormous strength to our research.
